MeetFighters News
New User Name Policy
Summary: Profile names with erotic, fetishist, escort or illegal content or allusion are no longer allowed.
This change in the Terms of Service has been prompted by a noticeable increase in dodgy profile names. The related entry in the Suggestion Box (titled Keywords for username rejection) has a perfect 5.0 score average.
Why are these profile names bad?
I want to keep the site fighting-related. All those profile names detract from the site's original purpose.
How does this affect you?
If your profile name isn't FrotCumEscort or something like that, you are not affected at all.
If you happen to have one of these dodgy names, you are still fine. The new rule is not retroactive, it only affects profiles registered after the 19th of May. However, I would like to respectfully ask you to change your name to something else. You can do so, free of charge, by opening a support request here.
If you see a new profile with a bad profile name, you may report it here. Please only do so for profiles registered after the 19th of May.

OK, I know you are trolling, but I'll bite:

- This is not an American site.
- How am I dictating how you live?

19/5/2013 08:29It's not discrimination - it's a sensible way to operate and avoid unnecessary interference from the "authorities"
Admin
19/5/2013 08:51(em resposta à...)
Actually it is censorship. People use that word like it is some sort of curse. It is not! Allow me to explain.
Sometimes censorship is simply sensible, as you put it. For example, I am actively censoring some Ghanian and Senegalese crime gangs who sometimes try to conduct a little advance fee fraud here. I hear no complaints about that, although that could be attributed to the fact that I have become very efficient at filtering these. Hardly any of this shit actually gets through to members. Yes, it is censorship. But not the kind that is bad for the site.
But let's continue, because advance fee fraud is clearly a "thin edge of the wedge" sort of argument. I also actively censor fake secondary accounts that some members create now and then. (You know the kind: young, muscular, photos of models and a total lie.) Although they sometimes get very upset when I suspend their accounts for such misconduct, it would be difficult to honestly argue the benefit of having fake accounts. Yes, it is censorship. But not the kind that is bad for the site.
And then there's the endless junk photos that people take of their arms, or feet, or left side of their hip, hoping to pass them off as profile photos. They too get very upset when those photos get classified as "gallery only". They claim it is censorship, which is really funny when you consider that the photos are still visible in the gallery. Having standards does not equal censorship. Write that down 100 times! :)
There is also a steady stream of pornography being uploaded to the site. For some people the siren call of uploading a photo of their dick is just too strong to resist! And yes, fuck yes, I censor the hell out of those photos. Because this is a fighting website. I am certain there are tons of other sites on the net where they can post all their dick photos to their heart's content. Try Facebook! :)
And then there's the matter of minors. They are not allowed to join the site, and in fact, I ban them if they try and I find out. Censorship? Yes. Discrimination? Absolutely. Do I have a good reason? You bet your life I do.
The list goes on and on. I censor hatespeech, racism, personal attacks, threats, naming and shaming and online bullying in all the public forums of the site! (Have a look at the Terms of Service for a complete list.) Why do I do that? I have standards. Stuff like that on my server's hard drive makes me feel dirty. I never volunteered to host that kind of stuff. All censorship. I'm proud of it.
Hmm.. Maybe I should write a blog post.

100% agree with you... thanks for your professionnal way of maintaining the site.
Nobody has been forced to become a member, and if one wants to be one, he then has to abide by your rules.
And after all, such a rule is the better way to find guys truly interested in combat sports and martial arts, even beginner ones... and that is the main point.

"Maybe I should write a blog post." I think you just did. You have drawn a fairly clean line in the sand and it is good of you not to require folks to change their names if they registered before the 19th. That's quite generous of you, as is your time spent explaining your reasoning. Keep up the good work and ignore anyone who criticizes these actions.

I believe you have the rite to censor ANYTHING you deem unfit on this site. This is your site, created and managed by you, free of charge to members. However I do feel you are sending a huge mixed message. You state you want to keep this site free of any sexual/erotic content in member profiles and photos. Your focus is to keep this site oriented to people who desire to meet opponents purely for wrestling/fighting. That said, your profile includes choices like: face sitting, nipple play, CBT, naked wrestling, and wrestle for top. This does not sound like a site where men are meeting simply for wrestling/fighting competition. Let's be honest and call it like it is, this site is a place where men come to explore the erotic aspect of fighting with other men. This "darker" erotic side of fighting can take many forms, but the men on this site are here for more than just meeting an opponent for a regular competitive fight. Anyone on this site who does not admit this fact is not being honest with themselves.
As the creator of this site, it is your choice to take this venue in whatever direction you see fit. As it stands now, the message is very cloudy.

Kindly do a search for "don't want sex" (680) and compare it to "want sex" (949) before you claim that every member here wants erotic stuff. We have 7000+ members, and you cannot simply put everyone in the same box (your box).
Bone saw (128)
30/5/2013 15:08(em resposta à...)
If it is your intent to have a site where men meet for athletic competition with no homo-erotic undertones.....GREAT. You created this site and do all the work, with nothing but donations from a portion of your members. You should be free to make this site whatever you envision. The point I am trying to make is less than 10% of your members clearly state they "don't want sex". Your profile template is highly sexually orientated. Despite the fact that over 90% of your members are exploring the erotic side of combat in some form, it appears from your comments you feel this is not the case. I'm having a hard time understanding why it is ok to check a box saying I am looking for a "fight for top" match, but not ok to express that same preference in my profile name or photos. .......and as for the 10% who clearly state "not looking for sex", I am not attempting to place everyone in one box. I am well aware that there are thousands of men out there who are looking for a totally non erotic wrestling/fighting experience, but I guarantee they are not registered on this site. They participate in the hundreds of venues available for amateur boxing, BJJ, wrestling, Judo, MuiTai, MMA etc. I train 3 days a week in at a BJJ/Submission grappling club. The experience I have there is very different than the experience I find on this site. If a man is on a site that offers profile options such as "fight for top", at the very least, he is curious and exploring. Finally, I would also like to point out that I have had dozens of conversations with members who have checked the box "not looking for sex", yet they still want sex included in the match. Checking that box simply makes them feel better about themselves. I guess all I am asking for is clarity and honesty.

19/5/2013 09:34This is a very important decision. We should keep our site goal oriented, this is also the difference of our site. Thank you very much.

19/5/2013 09:46Great. I think what you have done is to some extent overdue. I have noticed two trends recently. First, a big increase in new members and second a significant rise in the number of people who are not serious about wrestling, who just join to look around as it were often for sex or a boyfriend. i have also noticed a number of weird people either come aboard or try to.
I see this site as a kind of club where we all have more or less similar intentions, that is, we share a love of wrestling or boxing or judo etc for its own sake. This is who we are. There are plenty of other sites that people can join if their real interest is sex.
So thank you, administrator, for setting standards. PS I'm amazed that such a great site is free. I've become a donor because I know I have benefited from this site and met some good people.

19/5/2013 13:51Dear Admin, you are really doing a good job! And I completely understand the necessity of some cencorship (including deleting fake accounts) as you described it above.
However, you might have noticed that a lot of gay and bisexual people are members of the site. And my impression was that this is absolutely ok, since you can officially state that there preferred gear is "nude", that you are gay and that you like to combine wrestling with sex.
I also agree with the point that fighting is the main intention! people only liking to have sex and having nothing to do with fighting should indeed better go to another site.
However, if you want to have this site gay-free - and this is my impression at the moment - you should completely reorganize the options here. Anyway, I am completely confused at the moment about your gay policy here. Could you please help me?

Escort Site? Where is the link between name with erotic/sexual content and escorts?
Am I by the choice of the name an escort? Or is it rather the content of the profile, which is characterized as such an escort? Is an escort named "Sesame Street" more acceptable as a serious nude wrestler named "Naked Combat"? Call we such a procedure "tolerance"?

I agree that the admin is pretty awesome - there is a ton of work involved with maintaining a site like this and they do a great job at it.
I do agree with the fact that this is a fighting site and that the topic thus should be fighting related; however I am interested in this thread because it is true that you are allowed to explicitly state your preference for fighting in thongs or in the nude and that you are interested in the involvement of sex and specific fetishes during the match. My understanding when joining the site was that this was ok and that the site supported connections between fighters whether their ends were athletic or sexual. I think that these afford people ways of searching for others of like mind - an interesting feature may be allowing the option of filtering out specific profiles containing these items as well for users who may be uncomfortable with it.
Basically I don't quite understand how having a profile called "SexWrestling" or some such is different from including "want sex" in your list of interests. Either way the information is viewable by everyone - having it in the profile name simply allows people that are uninterested to avoid the content of your profile from the get go.
freshginger (1)
19/5/2013 14:57That confuses me slightly too. 'Want sex', 'jackoff', 'nipple play', etc. are options to include on one's profile and there is an entire subsection created for fetish groups. This doesn't seem like a clarification of what the site is about but more of a rewriting that ignores the other ways in which erotic aspects are encouraged.
I understand the desire to streamline the site and keep it more in line with the admin's intent, but if this was the intent all along then it's bizarre to have included such options initially. I am interested in wrestling but my interest developed from a sexual interest that is still there, and I have to say I'm finding these developments slightly alienating. Nothing to fret about, but greater clarity would be appreciated rather than an increased feeling of 'us vs them' arising from a false dichotomy of those interested in wrestling and those interested in sex.

19/5/2013 15:02I think the Admin is doing a great job.. Folks, it's just inappropriate user names being banned... You can still be into erotic wrestling or whatever activity.. These are valid profile description options!

Perception is everything. Each brings their own issues to the interpretation of language. My initial interpretation of the word dirty in the context of fighting is that it refers to someone who likes to bend or break the rules. Such is my, and many people's, understanding of the term 'dirty fighter'. Mud and sex were only brought to mind when they were pointed out by objectors. Ah, the vagaries of language and the confusion of cultural context; who knew?

19/5/2013 16:16First of all I want to congratulate the webmaster for this great site. However I must say that I totally disagree with this new rule, I thought this was a website where people who like wrestling could have a profile regardless whether they like that because of sportive reasons, sexual reasons or any other (legal) reason. I think most of the censorship that the webmaster enforce is alright and have to be enforced, but this one sound to me (and I say this with all my respects) moralist. I agree with the Woody Allen's quote: once he said when someone asked him if sex was dirty, "only when it's done right". Nevertheless I think this is a great website and I note that most of the people that make a comment agree with the new User Name Policy, and I think the webmaster is free to make changes when he considers that appropriate, so I respect that and I think users must either accept or leave. I just wanted to give my opinion and this one is that, although I obey and accept the new rules, I feel sad, and I think they are moralist and make this wonderful site a little bit worse.
wrestlesweat (95)
19/5/2013 16:40To all those who don't like the new policy, I have this to say: go take your money and resources and time, open a website and make it great, and lets see how many rules you do or don't come up with. If you are not a paying member, then I don't think there's much you say or complain about.... Who said it was a right to do what you want for free on this awesome site? Start by reading the Terms of Service you agreed to!
Thanks for all you do Admin
wrestlesweat (95)
19/5/2013 17:39Bingo.... The site survives because there are users.... The webmaster is exercising his right to define the user base he envisions. Also I don't think those who do not like the policy should conclude the rest of us don't care or want to see people leave.

20/5/2013 08:37Hey Admin, You're doing a great job. And you guys can argue what you want. Like "you're an hypocrit" or bla bla bla. You can have a user as "flowerwrestler" and like to fight in mud. There are rules, and that's great. You all are adults, and do what you want in your private messages or intimacy. I prefer have a viable, feasible site, having a "mainstream" user name, more than no website for fighters and wrestlers. There's on one side what you show off, on the other what you really do. And your turns on can be disucssed with the guys you been taken with. So, don't be so selffish and try to understand those collective rules are better for all of us. And you can go to other websites and try to find wrestlers and fighters. And ya all know that's much more difficult to find. Cheers Admin.

20/5/2013 23:40(em resposta à...)
You say: "There's on one side what you show off, on the other what you really do"
That is exactly my point! Is this really helpful? Wouldn't it be much better when people directly tell you what they want and what they are looking for? Isn't it a large waste of time when you just don't know whether or not you can take for serious what someone is writing?
Admin
21/5/2013 08:18(em resposta à...)
Nomen est omen. A name reflects a primary interest. It is, in essence, who you are online. This is why I get tired of arguments like "dirty" does not mean "dirty". (Those guys really need to look up "tautology" in a book sometime.)
I think it is OK if you want to meet fighters but also have one or two kinks on the side. That is why we have such interests to choose from. (They also act as warning labels for those who are not into that sort of thing.)
On the other hand, if your name is already something like "facesitme", you are better of on some other site because this one is about fighting and not your particular fetish. Do you see the difference?
Raufbold1976 (22)
22/5/2013 17:48(em resposta à...)
I absolutely see the difference! And I absolutely agree with that pure date/sex/escort... profiles should be banned. You are doing a great job keeping this site free of fakers and profile which do not touch the content of this site.
My point is rather a different one. I do not see problems in honest names, but find them helpful. I someone searches for sexwrestling (what is obviously accepted) why shouldn't he call himself sexwrestler? On the other hand, if someone is looking for sex here without fighting, then you should delete his profile. But then his name doesn't matter at all. But obviously, I am part of a very small minority seeing the things like that. So it's ok...
cubfighter (5)
21/5/2013 10:55(em resposta à...)
Ok Raufbold. But if you are here, it's because you have time to waste... And I have more crushes in pics than usernames... I have more crushes reading the profile than usernames... When a cruise for a fight, I want to know whom i dealing with and do not just stop on username.
Then let's have fun fighting and wrestling... Cheers.
TxWrestle (48 )
20/5/2013 18:12As someone who is looking for real wrestling, I would like to give an opposing point of view. If someone is looking for sex rather than combat, it is useful to know ahead of time. I prefer it when people who are looking for hair pulling or cock grabbing use names like "dirtyfighter" and when people who are looking for sex use a name like "cumfrot" simply because I can steer clear of them. When the name tells me nothing about the person, then I am more likely to waste time with profiles that I have no interest in.
torrheel (5)
20/5/2013 18:39Yes, I agree with this policy change. I have found on another very popular wrestling site, a high percentage of fakes (over 90%), misrepresenting themselves in several different ways. 22/5/2013 15:33Good change! It´s not about banning people, only about how the site appears. The names do stand out rather prominently on the whole site. As I see it the change is just about a subtle distinction whether this site appears like a dating portal where you can happen to meet fighters or it appears as a fighter´s portal where you can happen to find a date.
As a site for fighters this site is a precious little gem with no alternative in sight - not that I´d want an alternative, don´t get me wrong here. But if this site goes down or changes into something else it´d be a huge loss because it´d be the drop from one site of this kind to zero.
Good work, keep it up, make it grow but keep it developing in the right way!

04/6/2013 23:49Anything that de-emphasises sexual content on this site is a bonus. I know I'm biased, being a guy who only wants sport fighting, not sex (we DO exist, UwillTAP!) but it's quite simple the way I see it.
There are straight guys on this site - straight, not "bi-curious" - I have spoken to them, met one of them, they also exist.
If you want sex, fetish or fantasy go to GlobalFight or any one of its many carbon copies. This site is different and that is one of its many strengths.
