For newbies: should you prefer another beginner to a skilled opponent?
As a newbie, who to look for as a potential opponent? :)
When looking for another beginner as your wrestling date, you may think it is better as the match is going to be more even / balanced and it won't hurt so much! :D My experience says it really doesn't work like this. ;)
Meeting a skilled wrestler means meeting someone who:
1) has met many skilled and unskilled fighters before,
2) knows a bit how the fight is going on, what hurts, which hold can cause an injury etc.,
3) has reccomendations in profile you can read
4) is not afraid to meet other guys and usually it is easier to agree about a meeting,
5) probably is willing to coach you a bit and teach you some of his skills,
6) also was a beginner once
...
From my point of view, definitely do not be afraid of skilled wrestlers as a newbie! Many skilled wrestlers are happy to initiate a newbie to wrestling and invite them to "the club".
Enjoy! :)

26/3/2017 23:56Very well written post. I find that #2 is particularly true. Experienced guys tend to be hyper-aware of respecting limits and "managing" the aggression they dish out so that both opponents can enjoy their match.
Aside from that exhilarating exhausted feeling after, few of us want to suffer injuries or pain from an encounter. We all have jobs and lives outside of wrestling and can't afford to let this particular enthusiasm derail us from our other obligations. Experienced wrestlers know this and want the encounter to be successful.
If you and an opponent have clicked - creating a match that is memorable and exciting - you've found a long-term friend. I'd rather have one match per year where I know I'll have a great time and with just the right amount of challenging endurance than to constantly meet up with guys trying to prove their masculinity or who can't manage their spikes of testosterone.

27/3/2017 12:57I totally agree about wrestling a more experienced an opponent. He could teach you some moves and give you a good workout at the same time. Lastly, he will help you increase your confidence . I have had several past opponents who wrestled me at my skill level and helped me to progress.
