Oh yeah. Somebody below was talking about Metro and Center. Not familiar with any of it, but it sounds like none of it is currently happening. Would value any current suggestions for locations.
And strident is the best way to be in this town ;)
I think the Center has a hell of a nerve not having us back after they fixed up the place. F-ck them. Metro paid for space when it was dumpy. They claim to welcome all people but they don’t welcome boxers/wrestlers. Liability issue? Get a better insurance broker! They should be ashamed of themselves. They probably regard fighting as not PC and God knows they’re PC there.
Yeah, man. I started the thread. I was asking for people to recommend places to wrestle in NYC. Your contribution doesn't appear to be on topic, as you're not recommending a place to wrestle. I'm not sure what you're talking about.
Oh. Sorry if I got the threads mixed. Someone had written on one thread that the gay center in manhattan no longer permits the gay wrestling club (metro) to meet there. I used to go but years ago. So I was just riffing on how uptight the center can be sometimes. I was probably too strident. Apologies.
A nice place to check out is 3F Studios. They have locations in Manhattan on 32nd street and 14th street. They have mats at both locations. The venues are run by a guy who also hosts a lot of various men's kink educational events, and I am also aware that they host occasional men's oil wrestling parties (but I don't know how frequently).
Anyway, the venues are available for rental by the hour. General Non-peak rental rate is $60 per hour. Here's their website: https://3fsnyc.com/
I'm surprised no one has mentioned 3F Studios yet. I hope this helps!
You might want to check out Pandora's Box on W26th street. It has a wrestling room. I had a match there in June 2018 - and it was great. They have redone the room and it is much sleeker now. Check out this link with several pics of the venue.
When I used it (for a boxing match with a local NYC guy) it was $120/hour and it had no air conditioning (we sweated a lot). Like I said, they have renovated it since I used it so the price may be different. Also, this is not a gay place - it caters to all orientations and is probably a little more on the straight side (they have female wrestlers for hire), but they were very gay-friendly if nothing else. They also had a bathroom with a shower (not specific to the wrestling room though).
I will say, the ambience of the room really added to our boxing experience, and I am sure would hit my buttons for a wrestling match as well.
Their individual specialty rooms are all private. You may have misread... I think somewhere on their site it says no sex play in the public areas (hallways or to and from bathroom - which there is only one).
The time I was there, it was a boxing setup with a buddie from here, it was just the two of us in our private wrestle room. We were not limited to what we could do in there, but I had to put on my boxing robe to go out and use the bathroom.
Yes you can reserve the room for your own personal use. Like I said in my post, I met a boxer from meetfighters for a one on one private match. We met on a Tuesday evening - not sure how in demand it is on what you might consider busier weekend days/nights.
It was an awesome environment, and the guy I met was pretty awesome too.
Wow good to know.Did not know this existed ..can I ask the cost ..? know nothing is cheap in NYC IF IT'S 200 or under to me it's a good buy.100 for each wrestler ..It has to be hot to go on these mats I looked at your link ..thanks for the tip
120 is not bad for an hour for NYC even if it went up a bit.
Just the thought of that room and being there is worth it ..thanks will have to keep this place in mind
I can give you another suggtsrion. There is an app callled Recharge where you can book a hotel by the hour last miinute and ahead of time. Decent hotels.
I only have done once and the other guy and I split the cost of about $30 each. The main drawback for me is u am not a fan of bed matches. I prefer real wrestling on real mats. But this is a viable option.
Hmmm. If we can't come up with something better than somebody's place in Statan Island or a dirty hotel by Penn Station, maybe we can come up with somethin new. Inovative New Yorkers, we need a clean, affordable space to wrestle. Who has an idea? :)
Yeah. These are what everybody says. NickZ is in Statan Island and expects to participate, and Hotel Penn is disgusting. Looking for better options than these.
Hi guys I know Nick pretty personally for good 30 years.. with his new employment it's been hard for him to coordinate wrestling meet at a regular interval for the past two to three years? I went to only one but didn't wrestle 34 years ago. And Metro New York didn't spark much interest when it was moved to Staten Island where Nick is at about 4 Plus years ago. I wish I could have gotten involved in Metro years ago but I think I was just too shy to wrestle in front of others shoot...yeah l just over looked at and just did it. Now everything's on hold and another temp should be made to keep it going but it needs to be at a more convenient lolocation. The gay Center was perfect but after they renovated it 4-5 years ago they refuse to have Metro New York come back to the center. I think they said it was a liability. So we got to bless Terry for sparking and keeping interest with his starting wrestlefest many years ago.. maybe we should go help Nick out and keep searching for an opportunity to have a wrestling workouts
Bayridgefighter was just giving you a little history of how hard it is to find decent space to wrestle. Most NYC hotels are extremely expensive, and that rate does not equate plenty of space. In your average hotel room, you still have to have your match on the bed, which more than likely will not be a king-size. The Penn hotel works because it's one of the few hotels left from an age when the rooms were spacious.
I once thought about looking into empty storefronts for a limited-time rental (think pop-up shops) but those are also going to be very expensive. (Why do you think they're empty in the first place?)
Basically, New Yorkers have to bite the bullet and make whatever space they have work. (I do it...my bedroom has about 7 feet by 7 feet when I put the Murphy bed back up into the wall.)
This probably doesn't help much, but at least you know that you're not the only one trying to solve this problem.

I have no idea what any of this has to do with my original post. You're literally talking about things from when I was 7 years old.
I'm seeking good locations in NYC to wrestle. That means affordable hotel suggestions, etc. Not continued talk about people like Nick and Terry.
Anybody have any leads?
