To keep my space in perspective: While I have mats set up 99 percent of the time (double-layer Dollamur[tm] on floor and single layer on walls) in my basement for a few guys to train at one time. (pics of my space in my gallery); it falls far short of a viable venue for tournaments in terms of size (10 x 11 ); and height (not viable for stand-up for guys over 6'2") I don't know of any nearby larger mat space and/or ring rental. I can host small groups up to 4 or 5 – provided everyone present will wrestle all others–so nobody gets left out of the action nor to encourage nonwrestlers to be present.
Just Dan would be a better judge of my space for freestyle than I would be; as I have hardly ever been exposed to the style (mine is kind of 'anything agreed upon short of injury). OTOH, in nice weather, the backyard would be a more spacious venue, as I also have about 300 sq ft of Dollamur mats stored in an adjoining outbuilding
It appears such exist locally---cliques can be based on sex appeal, age, socio-economic status, career, and a lot of other puerile things which make high-school, or sandbox cliques seem mature in comparison. Reckon this kind of crap goes on to some extent everywhere; as it is part of [in]human nature.
well that is generous. My coaching would not reqire a lot of space, what you have is outstanding. We would do conditioning mabe take a run before stretching and bridging. conditioning training takes about an hour. I then run a clinic for basics, stance, changing levels, defending your back and drilling takedowns and then par terre wrestling. I have over 20 years of coaching experience at straight and gay wrestling clubs. Any matches would most likely start from refs position on the mats unless we can make sure stand up wrestling has guys around the mat space to stop injuries. thank you for the generous offer
Spruce's place is a little too small for high school or collegiate level freestyle wrestling instruction. As he mentioned there is not enough headroom for the standing starts. Also the padded walls come into play pretty quickly if there is a lot of movement down on the mats.
We can work around this problem somewhat by agreeing to move back to the center in the same position as reached against the wall. This works pretty well for informal matches.
One big upside to wrestling at his place is that Spruce always makes it available to those who are serious about actually wrestling and he is a gracious host. His only requirement is that everyone wrestles everyone. It seems only fair to me and assures that we all wrestle.
need to reach out to the state chairman for USA Wrestling in an agreed upon state. I know how to get the club started with USA Wrestling we need to find which state we are going to use for training and tournaments
Just to be clear. I'm up for wrestling but I'm not interested brawling. I have no desire to bloody anyone or vice versa. Sore muscles are fine, trips to the ER are not.
You seconded Dan's comment; I third it. ERs are not fun places---and they ain't cheap unless you have durned good health insurance. But who said we were gonna get mean and violent in the first place??? This is fun sport; not the hatred of political campaigns.
I'm not; because I know you are not a bad guy. I just got done saying, "who said we were gonna get mean and violent in the first place??? " I suspect we give it a day or two see what the person who originated the subject in the first place has to say as to how we proceed.
If you had anything seriously bad, you should flag his ass on the site and report it to site management or whoever. My most egregious attempted bad experience was on a different site – solved the problem myself – turning it into one of my most enjoyable encounters..
If it's nearby, I'd like to learn, be proficient in, freestyle in order to widen my ability to take on those men who do only freestyle and will not meet up with others. Even when taking on submission guys, it's nice to be able to teach them when a given hold or other action in submission would not be allowed in freestyle.
Freestyle and Greco Roman Technique will carry to any other combat sport. The conditioning alone makes you a top competitor. I will keep you guys posted.

That is fair. Too often these wrestling groups are like high school cliques.
