Excellent video. Never thought to us the straight up scissor choke. None of my bjj trainers have ever suggested. Have to try once we have a virus all clear. My favourite choke is a north south which I am really good at. I also have been trained to have good defence against a RNC
We don't really use a straight scissor choke in bjj and I'll cover why in a later video. There is a straight scissor choke from the crucifix position but even then we'll usually hit the arm bar instead
Thanks Chris. Makes sense then why none of my trainer have suggested it. Might be harder to get than a triangle. Because if you open up your guard enough to go straight up nothing to stop your opponent From escaping
Well, actually, you basically put yourself in that position when you do a double under stack pass and I've found that pass to be a ridiculously easy way to defend a straight scissor
I will have to try when it is safe to grapple again. If you ever get to nyc my athletic club has an amazing gigantic mat room. And my jujitsu trainer has his own private space too
A week ago I started a youtube channel on submission wrestling techniques and I just did a video on the concepts that go into a choke, check it out. (to see other videos on the channel go to the playlists)
