I was rolling with my buddy in the gym recently in the gi. I was in half guard and went to pull him by his belt to take his back, but his belt was either hidden under his gi top or he threw it to the side (can't remember which). It crossed my mind to grab the back of his gi pants and pull him forward in a sort of wedgie grip, but I'm not sure if that's allowed. To not be a jerk/creep, I let it go and swept him a different way, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if it's a legal move or not.
I know it's legal to control people by other parts of their gi pants, but not sure if a "wedgie grip" is allowed.

Our gym said there was one specific organisation which doesn’t allow the pants grip from behind (wedgie type grip or similar)
I specifically remember it was a tournament in Dubai
Not sure if AJP, but 100% sure it was tournament in Dubai from a somewhat international organisation
For others, it should be okay

Our coaches told us : despite fingers inside the opponent pants is forbidden, the waist grip "fingers inside" is generally allowed.
