It's a complicated question and it depends on what you're going for. If you're looking for size gains it's really about time under tension so things like wall sits are actually pretty good for that though they don't really develop strength through a full range of motion. Isometric squats (squats with pauses in different points) may also be good for size development.
If you're looking for endurance activities such as biking, hiking, running, jump squats, plyo lunges, stadium stairs can all help in that department.
If you're looking for strength and endurance I recommend wearing ankle weights for the stairs or carrying gallon jugs of water or putting heavy things in a backpack and doing a lot of different leg exercises such as stairs, lunges, squats, side lunges, TRX work, hikes, kettlebell swings, bridges, etc.
Just a question, due to I’ll geakth and a job change I’ve lost a lot of muscle from my thigh area and as I don’t gave much spare time to go to a gym I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to build them back up again
