My fantasy of the ideal gut punching scene for a movie

I'd happily play the suspect! One problem. It's over too quickly. I'd rather be the suspect/villain in a lengthy interrogation with gut punches. Ending in a fetal position is good, but dry heaves rather than barfing is better. The interrogator can start out with the question, "When's the last time you ate?" I'd say, "day before yesterday." Alternately, before the interrogator enters the room, someone says, "He's ready for you. He's not eaten since Monday."

I guess you're not sadistic enough. :) Do you think a guy who's held captive has any choice about when to eat? A single killer shot that ends someone in a split second does nothing for those who'd like to see a villain suffer. Besides, how effective would an interrogation be if the suspect dies the moment it starts?

do u think the fbi/ police/ good guys are supposed to do that? only villains make heroes suffer instead, and it's three killer shots not a single one (also a frail starving suspect is more likely to die from torture than if he were full of vigour).

You didn't quantify the number of killer shots. If the shots are indeed "killer shots," either the suspect is dead after the first one, or it's a case of almost, or maybe killer shots until one actually kills. Regarding what Hollywood believes what the "good guys" will do, apparently, you've missed a few movies. Some movie cops go by the book, others turn breaking the rules into an art form. They often make arrangements to work with other criminals in order to target a particular villain. Imagine a villain being held illegally by other non-law abiding guys, in order for a "good guy" to perform an off the books interrogation. A frail suspect would last at least a week before "starving." There's nothing about the scene that indicates that the suspect is frail either.

Anyway, this is fantasy we're talking about, hence there's no reason we shouldn't respect each other's imagination.

Apparently, you've failed to read my posted story properly before commenting on it. First of all, the number of shots was quantified as depicted. Secondly, "killer" as an adjective before a noun often means severe/ powerful rather than actually killing - if I meant "fatal blow" then I would've just used that instead and he'd be dead or at least unconscious (but nope). Lastly, it was inspired by that FBI series where they at most bend (not break) rules but not without making sure their own asses are covered. The average person would already be weak from skipping all meals for a whole day - no food for longer/ more days than that would make him too frail even without getting beaten up.

I read your story. However, I was expressing my personal preference and you decided to argue with it.

I also believe killer anything = anything that kills, unless in a context that makes it clear it's not meant to mean what it says it does. In your story, there's no indication whether the suspect lived or died. He was left in a heap, quite possibly aspirating while vomiting. If he passes out, it could be all over for him. One wouldn't expect a person to die immediately from a gut punch unless it caused an aneurysm, like it did with Houdini. Leave someone in a room with a killer dog, and it's reasonable to conclude that the dog would do some killing. A killer jolt of electricity would probably kill a person. A killer punch or a fatal blow sound like equivalent terms to me. However, it's your fantasy and it can be as confusing as you want it to be.

When I was younger, I'd fast for a week at a time while working landscaping. I'm old now, and last summer I fasted for three days while doing construction. I felt better after three days than I did to start with. My weight went from 140 to 138. Just as it had been the case when I was younger, I felt a bit euphoric and my mind was super clear. I also felt lighter on my feet. A lot of people wouldn't miss a meal, or even snacks in between. We've been socially conditioned to fear missing meals, but we've evolved to tolerate a lot of time between them. A person can go from hours to a couple of days without water before being in trouble, but it's a very rare soul who can't go a week or more without food.

AGAIN, kindly (scroll up and) learn to read: I responded to your first comment with MY preference (which explains the story) - literally two sentences beginning with "I prefer" and then YOU started arguing (and still are) with a paragraph of rhetorical questions.

Do you also believe that a "killer recipe" kills? Because unfortunately most people as well as dictionary.com would disagree. And if it were so easy to die from passing out after vomiting then there would be loads of such cases every day involving drunks. One wouldn't expect a person to die from a gut punch at all, period - for your information: Firstly Houdini was caught by surprise with a sucker punch, and secondly whether it actually caused his death is still controversial to this day. My story is so simple and straightforward that it would surprise me if any native English speaker finds it confusing.

Your experience does not speak for others and the average person does not fast; "a couple of days without water before being in trouble"? What nonsense! It's general knowledge (and also supported by googling) that a human can typically only survive without water for about 3 days - before that he/ she would already be dehydrated.

A few weeks ago the tv happened to show (the first season of) "FBI: Most Wanted" with Kellan Lutz as special agent Ken Crosby which somehow conjured in my mind the ideal gut punching scene that I'd love to see in a movie - although probably very unrealistic, as fantasies usually are. LOL!

Here goes... Imagine the police getting desperate because their legal interrogation isn't working to make a suspect reveal important information which he knows.

Overconfident and cocky, the suspect thinks he can play games and make a fool of the police by offering them a chance for him to answer all their questions if they succeed.

The challenge is to find an agent who can remain standing after taking 3 hits from him, yet floor him within 3 hits - only right at the navel, when prepared, no sucker punches - and he is even willing to sign an agreement freeing them from responsibility.

So the police sends their strongest agent who is a tall muscular fighter, he enters the interrogation room, gives a quizzical "wtf" look to the suspect who is waiting alone, turns to close and lock the door, then back again to face him.

Agent: "Ok then, let's do this."
Suspect: "Well take your shirt off."

(Agent shakes his head and does as told, Suspect walks over smirking and cracking his knuckles.)

Suspect: "Ready?"
Agent: "Go for it."

(Suspect throws a solid punch at the agent's navel. Shocked that it did absolutely nothing, he throws his second and then third punch both with full strength which would have caused him to miss - not that he remembered to aim anyway - so they land on Agent's solar plexus. But still zero effect. Suspect stares in disbelief at Agent who tilts his head smugly.)

Agent (patting his own abs): "Tell you what, take 3 more shots. Anywhere on the belly is fine."

(Pretending not to catch the hint that he failed to hit at the navel as agreed, Suspect hammers thrice with all his might at Agent's muscled midsection without bothering to aim anymore. Same result again. Suspect drops his shoulders in defeat.)

Agent: "Now your shirt."

(Suspect looks distracted as he removes his shirt, and as Agent approaches, he takes a few steps back until he is in front of the wall.)

Agent: "Good, don't want you flying back too far."

(As if a great idea came to mind, Suspect quickly presses his back against the wall, thinking this should help prevent him from being floored. Agent smiles to himself and puts his right fist against Suspect's bare navel.)

Agent: "Incoming."

(Suspect tenses up tightly, Agent draws back and thrusts right in at the same spot, his fist breaking through Suspect's tensed abs and knocking all the wind out.)

Suspect: "OOOF!!"

(Suspect bends forward and clutches his gut.)

Agent: "The deal was 3 hits. Still 2 to go."

(Suspect struggles to breathe as Agent straightens him up and pulls his hands away to the side.)

Agent: "Tense up, bro."

(Suspect tries to snap out of his dazed confusion and tense up as much as he can. Agent releases another powerful blow right at his navel, breaking through again and squishing his intestines.)

Suspect: "OOOOMMPF!!!"

(Suspect doubles over forward with drool dripping out of his mouth, trying to remain standing by pushing his butt against the wall for balance. Agent's phone rings, he answers, listens to the caller, hangs up after a few seconds, and goes to prep Suspect again.)

Suspect: "No no no..."
Agent: "Enough rest."
Suspect: "We're done. Or you'll get nothing from me."
Agent: "You've lost whatever you can offer. Now tense up like your life depends on it."

(As Suspect is held up with his shoulder pressed against the wall by Agent's left hand, he frantically tightens his abs as hard as he can, but in vain. For the final time, Agent positions his right fist on the target, draws back, and smashes a devastating killer blast right at Suspect's navel, driving deep in.)

Suspect: "OOOOOUUUUGGGHH!!!"

(Suspect crumbles to the ground, curls up in a fetal position, and pukes his guts out as Agent grabs his shirt and walks out.)
