the only reason I can imagine wearing a shirt while wrestling is a rip and strip. Or maybe starting out in singlets for round one, pulling them down to expose chests for round 2....

Surprising how wrestling can smetimes be sexy or at other times just male bonding, trying to win or just practising techniques. If you go to classes regularly you get a special relationship with those guys, with the hugs & handshakes too, you don't get in any other aspect of life. I think that we like the body contact. In our society men touching each other is generally frowned upon, at least for straight men. Perhaps it's some kind of male bonding and wrestling naked or semi-naked is the oldest sport.

We live in an era where being male, particularly a white male means being blamed for many of life's ills.

When we wrestle bare chest to bare chest, sweating on each other, and contesting with each other. We celebrate being males.
