I am very touched that Admin wants to donate £50. At the moment the plan is to take cash at the door and remit to Cancer Research but I think there may be others who cannot participate but want to support so I will look into setting up a mechanism for making donations and post it to the forum
This event is now confirmed. It will take place on Saturday 26th October 2013 at the Wrestling Factory in Manchester.
CASH PRIZES OF £100 FOR THE WINNER OF EACH WEIGHT CLASS ALL PROFITS TO CANCER RESEARCH UK
How much does it cost? £25 for contestants. £10 for spectators. Free for non-wrestling referees and volunteers who help make it work on the day.
Why so much? Because there are three cash prizes plus venue hire to pay for, and the idea is to make a decent donation to Cancer research with the profits. everyone involved in setting up and running the event is giving their time free of charge.
Who is eligible? Members of this site with 5 or more past opponents.
What are the weight classes? (1) Up to 75 kgs. (2) 75-95 kgs. (3) 95+ kgs. Contestants will be weighed on the day.
Will there be a tag category? If there is enough interest. If so it will be without weight limits.
How does it work? Within each weight class round 1 will be drawn from a hat. Then it is winner v winner until the class is won.
Won't there be a lot of hanging around? The middleweight category will take place first at 1.15 pm. Lightweights at 3pm. heavyweights at 4pm?
Will there be time and space for recreational wrestling too? Yes as long as it doesn't disrupt the tournament.
What are the fight rules? The idea is to host a competitive tournament. Each match will be a single round with best of 3 subs to win. It is a grappling contest but limited punching will be permitted. Full rules will be separately posted nearer the time but the theme is safe/sane competition. fight to win - part as friends.
Will there be referees? yes and volunteers are sought. A wrestler can referee in another weight class.
Is there a dress code? Trunks/singlets/speedos and suitable footwear. Knee elbow and head protectors are optional.

"This is a wrestling tournament but if both combatants agree, up to three gloved body punches in a match are permitted."
Hmm, if both combatants agree, how about permitting strangle/choke holds (which ARE a part of wrestling)?
